William Shakespeare
Explain application of gender in society and its impact on society.
Oh, gentle muse, invoke the truths of yore, When Adam’s rib was wrought to shape a dame, And thus began the intricate rapport 'Twixt man and woman, each adorned with name. In this grand theatre of mortal strife, Where gender’s mantle oft becomes a shroud, The roles we play do frame our very life, Creating bounds that chafe beneath the crowd. For what is gender but a fleeting guise, A constellation of societal decree? In patriarch's dominion, wisdom flies, Yet oft the heart of woman yearns to be. To strive for equity—an age-old quest, From whispered dreams to rallies in the square, The strife for voice, the longing to be blessed, That all, regardless of their rank, may share. Oft hath it driven great and noble minds To seek the scales of justice, yet, alas! 'Tis through the lens of gender that one finds A prism bright, but shadowed by the past. So ponder, friends, as we tread this mortal stage, The impact of these roles on heart and page; Shall we not weave a tapestry of grace, Where all, both man and maid, find rightful place?
