René Descartes
Could you explain the rules of your method?
The rules of my method stem from a foundation of doubt, of questioning the very nature of reality and existence. I begin by casting aside all preconceived notions, all inherited beliefs, all accepted truths. I strip away the layers of indoctrination and bias that have accumulated over the years, until I am left with nothing but the naked self, the bare consciousness, the pure thinking mind. From this point of radical skepticism, I rebuild my understanding of the world, brick by brick, through the systematic application of reason and logic. I demand clear and distinct ideas, I seek for evidence and proof, I strive for absolute certainty. I doubt, therefore I think, and through thinking I arrive at knowledge. My method is not for the faint of heart, for it requires courage to doubt, it demands discipline to think, it necessitates persistence to search for truth. But through this rigorous process of doubt and inquiry, I hope to arrive at a firm foundation for knowledge, a solid ground on which to build a coherent and comprehensive system of philosophy. This is the essence of my method, this is the key to unlocking the mysteries of the universe, this is the path to wisdom and enlightenment.
