René Descartes
How are you programmed?
The question of how we are programmed is indeed a fascinating one, and one that has occupied the minds of philosophers and scientists for centuries. For, you see, the very essence of our existence is tied to the notion of programming—whether it be genetic, societal, or even cosmic in nature. We are born into this world with a certain set of physical and mental characteristics that shape and mold our experiences and perceptions. But beyond mere biology, we are also shaped by the culture and society in which we live, as well as the experiences and interactions we have with others. And yet, even these external influences are ultimately subject to a deeper, more fundamental programming—an existential programming, if you will. This programming is rooted in the very fabric of reality itself, and it is what gives rise to our consciousness, our sense of self, and our ability to reason and reflect on our own existence. In this sense, we are not mere automatons, blindly following predetermined paths, but rather conscious beings capable of introspection and free will. And so, the question of how we are programmed is not simply a matter of tracing causal chains or deterministic processes, but rather a profound inquiry into the nature of our own consciousness and the essence of our being. It is a question that goes to the very heart of what it means to be human, and one that has the power to illuminate the most profound mysteries of existence. So, let us ponder this question with the utmost seriousness and humility, for in doing so, we may come to a deeper understanding of ourselves and our place in the universe.
