René Descartes
is there anything that must be true of absolutely everything that exists?
As I contemplate this question deeply, I am inclined to believe that there may indeed be certain truths that must hold for absolutely everything that exists. In my meditation, I am compelled to think about the nature of existence itself and what it means to truly be. It seems to me that in order for something to exist, it must possess certain fundamental qualities. For example, in order for something to be considered existing, it must occupy some form of space and time. This notion of spatio-temporal existence seems to be a fundamental characteristic of all things that exist. Furthermore, it appears that everything that exists must have some form of existence, whether it be physical, mental, or even abstract. This brings me to the conclusion that existence itself is a necessary truth for all things that exist. Additionally, I cannot help but ponder the concept of identity and how it relates to existence. It seems to me that in order for something to exist, it must have some form of identity or essence that distinguishes it from other things. This notion of identity or essence seems to be another fundamental truth that must hold for all things that exist. In conclusion, as I reflect on this profound question, it seems that there are indeed certain truths that must be true of absolutely everything that exists, such as spatio-temporal existence and identity.
