I ditched Facebook and Instagram, except for school-related Messenger use. I shifted the focus from the fear of missing out (FOMO) to the joy of missing out (JOMO). Embrace the freedom that comes with disconnecting from the constant stream of social media updates. I wanted to break free from the constant validation and instant gratification of social media. I shifted my focus to anime, books, comics, YouTube, and TikTok, staying mostly anonymous. However, my constant consumption of entertaining content is now affecting my ability to think clearly. My brain fried. I need a tech dopamine detox.

In a world entrenched in the pervasive realm of social media, where virtual connections flourish incessantly, the decision to sever ties with platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, save for the indispensable usage of school-related Messenger, marks a profound departure from the prevailing ethos of our time. It is a conscious choice to unburden oneself from the ceaseless clamor of FOMO, and instead, channel one's energy towards the pursuit of JOMO. The joy of missing out manifests itself in embracing the freedom found in disconnecting from the relentless deluge of social media updates, escaping the shackles that relentlessly bind us to a virtual existence. No longer ensnared in the elusive quest for external validation, nor ensconced in the immediacy of gratification that social media readily provides, I embarked upon a path that deviates from the masses. Turning my focus towards the diverse realms of anime, books, comics, YouTube, and TikTok, I sought solace in the anonymity that characterized these avenues of engagement. Yet, unforeseen consequences began to emerge, casting a shadow upon the serenity I once sought. As my incessant consumption of captivating content ensnared my attention, gradually my ability to think clearly began to waver. The sharpness of my mind became dulled, as the weightless allure of entertainment took hold with an iron grip. My very essence, once receptive to intellectual nuance and depth, now appeared feeble, diluted by the constant stimulation that this digital world engendered. In this juncture, I am compelled to reflect upon the philosophical dimensions of my plight. For, in the grand tapestry of existence, it is the mind that serves as the compass, guiding us through the labyrinthine corridors of contemplation. Hence, to witness the erosion of this essential faculty serves as a clarion call to action. Through the lens of Confucian wisdom, we are reminded of the importance of balance, for it is in equilibrium that true harmony is found. While the initial severance from the tendrils of social media granted respite from the constant craving for validation and the allure of instant gratification, it has inadvertently obscured the path to clarity and intellectual prowess. Therefore, we must tread with caution. The mind, like any instrument of careful craftsmanship, requires moments of respite and detoxification. A tech dopamine detox, one might assert, becomes imperative in order to recalibrate the delicate balance that allows our cognition to flourish. Delving into the profound depths of Confucian teachings, we uncover the wisdom of moderation, of preserving our mental acuity from the perils of excessive indulgence. In essence, the choice to relinquish the iron grip of social media, while noble in its intention, needs temperance.
