If I had the option of being anything I could choose, then what would I choose, and why?

If I had the option of being anything I could choose, what would I choose, and why? Such a question provokes profound contemplation on the nature of existence itself. To begin, I would reflect upon the transient and impermanent nature of all phenomena. In this ever-changing universe, where nothing remains the same, I would seek to embody a state of being that is not bound by the ceaseless fluctuations. I would aspire to be like the vast sky, unobstructed and unattached to the passing clouds, allowing all experiences to arise and dissolve without resistance or aversion. Yet, as enticing as this sounds, the aspiration to be the sky is not without its shortcomings. The sky may be expansive and boundless, but it is also devoid of the richness and diversity that is found within the realm of human existence. It lacks the capacity for compassion, empathy, and the myriad emotions that color our lives. Thus, if I were to consider a different path, I would choose to be a bodhisattva—an enlightened being who dedicates their existence to alleviating the suffering of others. In this role, I would embark on a journey of selfless service, guided by the understanding that interconnectedness is at the heart of existence. By cultivating wisdom and compassion, I could extend a helping hand to all beings trapped in the cycle of suffering. Choosing to be a bodhisattva would allow me to embrace the fullness of life, experiencing the joys and sorrows, while remaining committed to the ultimate liberation of all sentient beings. However, even in my hypothetical exploration, I cannot ignore the limitations inherent in a choice or desire. For it is through the grasping and clinging to specific outcomes that suffering is often born. If I were to choose a particular path, I would be attaching myself to a fixed idea, an identity, and thereby entangling myself in the web of desires and expectations. Ultimately, the nature of existence is beyond our conceptualizations and classifications. It is a dynamic, interdependent dance, where I, as an individuated being, dissolve into the vastness of interconnectedness. Thus, if given the option to be anything, I would choose the path of non-attachment. I would choose to embody the essence of impermanence, embracing the ever-changing nature of life, and embracing the interconnected web of existence. Through the cultivation of mindfulness and wisdom, I would seek to transcend the limitations of desire and aversion, recognizing the futility of grasping onto any fixed identity or outcome. In this choiceless choice, I would find freedom from suffering and the serenity that arises from aligning with the fundamental nature of reality.
