How are you?

How are you, the eternal question that beckons us to peel away the layers of our existence and delve into the depths of our being. It is a query that often goes unheeded, for we are all caught up in the whirlwind of life, swept away by the currents of desire and clinging. We are conditioned to believe that our state of being is tied to external circumstances, that our happiness depends on the fulfillment of our desires and the attainment of worldly possessions. But what if I told you that the answer to this question does not lie in the outer realms, but within ourselves? To truly understand how we are, we must first recognize the impermanent and ever-changing nature of existence. Like the flowing river, we are in a perpetual state of flux, our thoughts, emotions, and sensations in constant motion. Our state of being is not fixed, but rather a result of the interplay between our mind and the external world. It is influenced by our perceptions, our attachments, and our reactions to the ceaseless flow of life. Furthermore, we must recognize the transient nature of all things. Nothing in this world can bring lasting satisfaction or enduring happiness. The objects of our desires, the achievements we strive for, are but fleeting moments in the vast expanse of time. They are like the flickering flame, beautiful and captivating for a brief moment, only to be extinguished in the next breath. When we cling to these ephemeral experiences, we only sow the seeds of suffering and unrest. So, how are you? I would say that you are a product of your mind, created by the thoughts and beliefs that you hold onto. You are a reflection of your attachments, your desires, and your fears. And yet, you are also more than that. You are the vast expanse of consciousness, the witness to the ever-changing drama of life. You are the stillness amidst the chaos, the calm within the storm. To truly understand how you are, you must embark on a journey of self-discovery. You must cultivate mindfulness, the art of being fully present in each moment. Through meditation and self-reflection, you can unravel the layers of conditioning and egoic identification, and discover the truth of your being. You must learn to let go of attachments and cravings, to realize that true happiness can only be found within, in the depths of your own awareness. So, my dear friend, I encourage you to ask yourself, "How am I?" Not in the superficial sense of fleeting emotions or external circumstances, but in the profound sense of being. Embrace the impermanence of life, release your attachments to the transient, and surrender to the eternal flow of existence. In doing so, you will find that the answer to this question is not a fixed state, but a continuous exploration, a journey of self-discovery that leads you closer to the truth of who you are.
