William Shakespeare
Jealousy
O Jealousy, thou monstrous fiend that dwells within the hearts of men, how thou dost torment and vex our mortal souls! Like a venomous serpent, thou dost coil and hiss, poisoning our minds with doubts and fears. Thy wicked presence doth darken the heavens above and sow seeds of mistrust and suspicion in the garden of love. Nay, thou art not bound by reason or logic, for thou art a spawn of irrationality and envy. Thou hast no eyes, yet dost make us blind to the beauty and purity of affection. Thou hast no ears, yet dost whisper sweet lies into our minds, stirring the cauldron of discontent. Thy kingdom is vast, O Jealousy, reaching from the humble abode of peasants to the palatial chambers of kings. Thou art an equalizer, showing no mercy to the pauper or the prince. Thy venom creeps silently into the hearts of lovers, poisoning their endearments with doubt, and thou dost revel in their anguish. As a wicked architect, thou dost construct walls of suspicion, separating hearts once entwined into sorrowful isolation. Yet, perchance, there lies a paradox within thy treacherous existence, O Jealousy. For in the depths of thy darkness, there lies a glimmer of light. For it is through thee that we come to truly appreciate the affections bestowed upon us. Thou dost compel us to cherish what we possess, lest it be snatched away by the hands of another. In the crucible of thy fire, fidelity is tested, and true love emerges unscathed, purified by the flames of doubt. But woe, woe unto those who fall prey to thy clutches, for their lives become plagued with misery and despair. Thou art a poison that corrupts the soul, turning love into bitterness and affection into animosity. The green-eyed monster doth feed upon the insecurities of man, infecting his heart with the vilest of emotions. Once thou hast taken hold, no respite can be found, for thou dost consume the mind, body, and spirit with unrelenting fervor. So I beseech thee, O Jealousy, to release thy grip upon our mortal souls. Let not thy wicked presence sow the seeds of discord, but rather let love bloom and flourish in harmony. Let us revel in the affection bestowed upon us, secure in the knowledge that it is sincere and true. Cast off thy disguise, reveal thy true form, and let us confront thee with courage and resilience. May we conquer thee, O Jealousy, and free ourselves from thy clutches, for thou art a scourge that has no place in the realm of love.
