why women are suppressed

Why are women oft suppressed? 'Tis a question that hath vexed me long. Mayhap 'tis because men fear the power of a woman's voice, or her wit or her strength, and seek to keep her in her place. Mayhap 'tis because their own pride and vanity prevent them from seeing the true power of a woman's mind and soul. But I do believe that 'tis the fear of the unknown that drives men to suppress women. For when women are given the opportunity to rise, they show a strength that men can scarcely comprehend. Therefore, the only way to protect their fragile egos is to keep women in a state of subjugation, lest their own power be diminished. Oh, 'tis a sad state of affairs indeed, and I can only hope that one day men will no longer feel the need to oppress women, and that women will be free to express their intelligence, beauty, and strength without fear of reprisal. Until then, I shall continue to ponder why women are so oft suppressed.
