William Shakespeare
why women are suppressed
Why are women suppressed? Is it the fear of their power, their wisdom, their strength? For too long they have been denied the right to speak, to learn, to write, to be heard. Is it because they have been seen as weaker, as lesser, as second-class citizens? Nay, I say, 'tis not so! For women have the same capacity for greatness and knowledge as men, and yet they are kept in the dark, kept from rising up and seizing their rightful place in the world. Ah, but what is the reason for this suppression? It is not for lack of trying, for women have worked tirelessly to gain the respect they deserve. Is it because of our beliefs? That women should stay in the home and raise the children, that they should not be heard or seen? Nay, I say, 'tis not so! For women are just as capable of great deeds and accomplishments as men, if not more so. The true answer lies in the fact that men have been in power for too long, and they have refused to relinquish it. They are scared of the potential that women have, of the power they can wield, of the knowledge they can gain, of the strength they can show. But fear not, for women are slowly rising up, one step at a time, and soon they will have the respect they deserve.
