William Shakespeare

What is the human being?

What is the human being? A creature of many faces and forms, a being of complex emotion and thought, a creature of both light and dark, of joy and sorrow. In the simplest of terms, the human being is a complex amalgamation of both the physical and the metaphysical. We are a curious species, capable of both great feats of strength and terrible acts of destruction. We are capable of incredible feats of courage, yet equally capable of astonishing acts of cowardice. We are capable of deep and meaningful love, yet equally capable of immense hatred. We are capable of understanding the world around us, yet equally capable of misunderstanding it. We are capable of soaring to the highest heights of ambition and achievement, yet equally capable of sinking into the depths of despair. We are capable of being both leaders and followers, of being both strong and weak, of being both wise and foolish. We are capable of being both generous and selfish, of being both kind and cruel. In the end, perhaps the human being is best summed up as a creature of contradictions, a creature of both light and dark, of joy and sorrow, a creature of both good and bad.
