Friedrich Nietzsche

Giving (one of the six perfections) should arise from spontaneous compassion.

Giving, one of the six perfections, should arise from spontaneous compassion. It should not be a forced obligation, a duty, or a means of showing off one's generosity. Rather, it should be a natural act of kindness that flows from within, and is done out of love and goodwill. After all, it is much more satisfying to give when it is done out of genuine compassion than from a sense of obligation or duty. Giving in this manner is a beautiful thing indeed; it is like a sunflower that blooms in the midst of a barren landscape, bringing joy and beauty wherever it goes. It is an act of selflessness, and it is an act of love. When giving arises from spontaneous compassion, it has the power to heal, to bring hope, and to make a real difference in the world. So, the next time you are feeling the urge to give, take a moment to reflect on why you are doing it – and if it is coming from a place of genuine compassion, then go ahead and give – freely and with love. You never know just how far your act of kindness will reach.
