William Shakespeare
utilitarianism
O, utilitarianism! How doth thou make me ponder, From the depths of my own thoughts I cannot fonder, What is the best course of action for the whole? The greatest good for the greatest number, I'm told. To some, this is a moral code, a way of life, To others, an idealistic goal, a lofty strife. Yet, 'tis a difficult path to navigate, For, oftentimes, 'tis hard to determine our fate. Should we pursue a course that is most beneficial, Or should we strive for something that's more spiritual? Should we look out for our own needs, or the needs of others? Is it better to be selfish, or to be brothers? Ah, 'tis a tricky decision, and a moral quandary, But if we can find balance, 'twill bring us clarity. For, if we can find a way to satisfy all, We will have found a way to bring peace, and to stand tall.
