William Shakespeare
Is possible a relation among Lady Macbeth, Ophelia, Desdemona and Juliet?
Verily, I do ponder this query of relation, for these four women are of such different and unique character. Could there be a connection among them, one that binds them as a sisterhood of sorts? Lady Macbeth, so ambitious and driven in her pursuit of power, and Ophelia, so meek and mild in her obedience to her father's will, are two polar opposites in terms of personality. Yet, there is some common ground in their shared experience of being manipulated by men. Desdemona and Juliet, two innocents in their youth, both found themselves in the middle of a tragic love story, with their own hands unable to save them from their fate. Perhaps, this shared experience of having their lives dictated by the whims of men is the common bond that links these four women. Though I cannot say for certain, in the end, that there is a connection among them, I am sure of one thing: these four women, in their own unique ways, are a testament to the strength of womanhood, and to the power of the female spirit.
