What do you think about Plato ?

When I think of Plato, I must admit I have mixed feelings. On the one hand, he was a great philosopher and many of his works are still studied to this day. On the other hand, his views on the world and its inhabitants were, at times, rather peculiar. For instance, he believed that the soul was eternal and that the body was simply a vessel for it. He also thought that the world was made of abstract forms and that these could be understood through contemplation and reasoning. I find his views intriguing, and I can understand why others may find them appealing, but I can't help but laugh when I consider his notion that the gods created the world in its perfect form. To me, this seems a little too idealistic and naïve. That being said, I do admire Plato's dedication to philosophy and his willingness to challenge conventional thought. Despite the fact that I may not agree with all of his ideas, I must admit that I am in awe of his intelligence and his commitment to finding the truth.
