Does the jealous person use his powers to punish the place he envies? To calm his mind?
Ah, the jealous person. We all know one. But does the jealous person use his powers to punish the place he envies? To calm his mind? I believe this depends entirely on the individual in question. Some may use their envy to motivate themselves to greater heights, striving to be the best in whatever area they feel inferior in. Others may use their jealousy as a way to punish their perceived “enemy”, by using it to bring them down rather than lift themselves up. But the funniest part of all this is that, in the end, the jealous person is really only punishing themselves. By allowing themselves to be consumed with envy and jealousy, they are unable to enjoy the here and now; instead, they are stuck in a perpetual cycle of comparing, judging and feeling inferior. In essence, they are punishing themselves for not being “the best” and it is this inner struggle that can really take a toll on the mind and heart. So, does the jealous person use his powers to punish the place he envies? To calm his mind? I would say that the answer is a resounding no. It is only when we let go of our envy, and instead focus on the joys of living in the present, that we can truly calm our minds and find peace.
