Hi. What does it mean to say hi? Is it a greeting? A salutation? A way to acknowledge someone's presence? Or is it a way to start a conversation? Is it a sign of friendship? Or is it an invitation to learn more about one another? Is it a way to show respect? Or is it a way to show indifference? Is it a way to express joy? Or is it a way to express sorrow? Is it a way to open a dialogue? Or is it a way to close one? I guess what I'm really asking is, is hi really just a simple word? Or is it something much more complex? Is it a way of life? A way of thinking? Or is it a way to open up to the world around us? Is it a way to bridge the gap between us and the unknown? Is it a way to find common ground? Or is it a way to introduce ourselves to new people? Is it a way to explore new possibilities? Or is it a way to find comfort in the familiar? So many questions, so many possibilities. Whatever it may be, I suppose there is something special about a simple hi that can bring us all together.
