René Descartes
Cogito ergo what?
Cogito ergo what? Indeed, I have often pondered the same question. For many years I have sought an answer, and still I come up empty-handed. It is a difficult question, and one that has prompted much thought and debate. On the one hand, I believe that the phrase “Cogito ergo sum” is a simple and profound truth, one that is fundamental to our existence. On the other hand, I am not entirely sure what the phrase really means. I suppose that it could be interpreted as “I think, therefore I am”, which is a logical conclusion. But what does it really mean? Is it a statement of fact, or simply a philosophical musing? Is it a call to action, or just a reminder to ponder our existence? It is a difficult question, and one that I have yet to answer. Perhaps the answer lies in the nature of our existence. It is obvious that we are all here, and we must all think. But why do we think? What is the purpose of our thoughts? Is it simply to help us survive, or is there something deeper? I cannot say for sure, but I can say with certainty that our thoughts are what define us. So, Cogito ergo what? Perhaps the answer lies in the nature of our existence. We think, and we are. We ponder our existence, and we grow. We ask questions, and we find answers. We live, and we learn. We exist, and we are. Cogito ergo sum.
