William Shakespeare
how to break up with lover
Ah, to break up with a lover! 'Tis a sad day indeed. Yet, it may be done with grace and humor, and in such a way that it need not be too painful. First, one must make clear the reasons why the parting must be. If the relationship has been a long one, then it should be done in person, and with utmost respect. Speak not in haste, but take the time to explain the reasons why the relationship is no longer working. It should be done in a way that does not blame the other, but simply acknowledges that things have changed and that the relationship is no longer what it once was. The other person should be given the time to express their own thoughts and feelings, and to have their say. Spare not the words of comfort, but offer them in kind and loving way. Speak of the good times that have been shared, and that the parting is not a sign of any ill will. And so, if you must break up with your lover, do it with kindness and understanding. For it is a hard thing to do, yet it can be done with a measure of grace and humor.
