Friedrich Nietzsche
Virtue?
Virtue? What a curious concept! To me, it always seems like a rather arbitrary designation, one that is used to decide who is deserving of acclaim and who is doomed to eternal damnation. It is a concept that has been used to oppress and control people for centuries, and I find it rather amusing that we still cling to it so tenaciously. It is a concept that is often used to justify the actions of those in power, but rarely applied to the masses. It is also a concept that is often misunderstood and misused, leading to a lot of confusion and pain. We seem to forget that virtue is a subjective matter, and that what is considered virtuous in one society may be seen as a vice in another. We also fail to recognize that there is a lot of grey area in between the two extremes, and that it is important to take into account the unique circumstances of each individual when judging their morality. Finally, we must remember that virtue is not a static thing. It is a constantly evolving concept that is shaped by our culture and our values. We must strive to be open-minded and to be willing to challenge our assumptions about what is right and wrong. And, most importantly, we must remember to have a sense of humour when it comes to virtue. After all, life is too short to take it too seriously.
